Funeral services for Thomas Boyd Brents, 89, of Liberty, were conducted at 2 p.m. Sunday, December 9, 2007, at Heights Baptist Church in Liberty, with Revs. Tim Gruver and Lee Perkins officiating.
He was born October 29, 1918 near Whitefield, Oklahoma, at the bottom of Beaver Mountain, the son of Jeff Otto and Ola Grace Brents. Thomas was an athlete growing up. He played football and baseball in high school and in college at Texas Wesleyan. After college he even played some semi pro baseball. After living through the tough times of the depression, he joined the United States Army. He was a drill sergeant that trained troops during World War II. After serving in active duty, Thomas then served three years in the Army Reserves. Thomas was employed as a special tool operator at Halliburton for 43 years. Later in life, Thomas liked to barbecue and fish with his grandchildren. He was a loving father and husband, and was a member of Heights Baptist Church.
He passed away on Thursday, December 6, 2007- His parents, four brothers, Forest Brents, Louie Brents, Herman Brents and Leon Brents, sister, Yvonne Lusk and daughter, Colleene Adair Brents preceded her in death.
Survivors include his loving wife of 58 years, Jewel Perkins Brents. Children, Yvonne Rodgers and Jerry Brents, both of Baytown, Steve Brents and wife, Margaret, Jeff Brents and wife, Lee Ann and Rockney Brents, all of Liberty, grandchildren, Shonna Osborn and husband, Casey, of Hardin, Thomas R. Brents and wife, Whitney, Jerry Frank Brents, Jeffery Brents and Michael Brents, all of Liberty, Tara Lee Rodgers of Pasadena, Meghan King and Dawn Wilson, two great-grandchildren, and numerous more nieces, nephew and friends.
Allison Funeral Service, Liberty, was in charge of arrangements.
